EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is a form of somatic therapy that helps clients heal unprocessed trauma.
Combined with talk therapy, EMDR helps clients rewire their neural landscape to lessen or even completely eliminate symptoms related to past trauma (flashbacks, nightmares, headaches, sweating, etc).
One large benefit of EMDR is that clients do not necessarily have to know the source of their symptoms or trauma in order for EMDR to be effective.
CBT
Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, is a form of talk therapy that helps clients change their relationship with their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
CBT begins with the understanding that our thoughts underpin our actions, and that the root of undesired behavior is oftentimes unhelpful or negative thinking. CBT affirms that unhelpful patterns of thinking can be relearned, thus leading to different, more desired outcomes.
CBT has been shown to be particularly effective in treating anxiety, depression, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, phobias, sexual dysfunction, and more.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of becoming aware of the present moment. It involves the non-judgemental noticing of the thoughts, feelings, and sensations that naturally arise during treatment or throughout the day.
Instead of engaging with what comes up—Why am I thinking that? What is wrong with me?—mindfulness encourages us to simply become aware of what arises. When we can practice becoming aware in this way, we increase our capacity to choose our response.
When combined with other therapies, mindfulness has been shown to be effective in treating anxiety, depression, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, and more.
"Sometimes we are closer to the truth in our vulnerability than in our safe certainty.”
